Richard Burge on CWEIC’s new programme of events and initiatives

As I come to the end of the my third month as CEO of CWEIC I am evermore struck by the magnitude of the opportunity that we have to create business opportunities for our members, and Commonwealth citizens around the world.

Everybody that I speak to, from Queensland Government whose business programme we will be supporting at next year’s Commonwealth Games, to our partners in the City of London with whom we are working on the most ambitious Commonwealth Business Forum ever for April 2018… Everybody agrees that there is a chance here that we cannot waste!

The team and I have therefore committed to an ambitious new programme of events that will allow both private sector and Governments to harness, and build upon this potential. This month we have hosted our first Tourism Roundtable, a Marlborough House Conversation with Aldermanic nominee to be London’s next Lord Mayor, Charles Bowman, and an India-UK University & Industry Roundtable focused on “Strengthening Education & Innovation Partnerships between Universities and Business”.

We are following up with two events in the City’s Guildhall. Conrad Bird, Director of the GREAT Britain campaign will be talking about how countries and companies can make their branding more sophisticated whilst on the 19th will be holding our first major thematic roundtable on ‘Access to Financial Services’ (please got to our online events page for more details).

All members are also invited to our ‘Export Day Reception’ at One Great George Street on 17th July where we will be welcoming our third cohort of Commonwealth Export Champions to the CommonwealthFirst programme.

For these events to be fully worthwhile, we need the participation of our members, so please contact the team if you would like to get involved or offer us your own suggestions and feedback.
