Earlier this month, The Telegraph released its ranking of the world’s top island holiday destinations – and it came as little surprise to see the Maldives included among the very best. As a valued Strategic Partner of the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council (CWEIC), the Maldives continues to strengthen its global reputation for tourism excellence.
Internationally, the Maldives has become synonymous with world-class relaxation and breathtaking natural beauty. Following the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic, the country’s tourism industry has not only rebounded but achieved record-breaking numbers. In 2024, nearly 2 million visitors arrived, with Commonwealth nations such as India and the UK among the largest source markets.
As The Telegraph highlighted in its feature: “Private island resorts, ringed by perfect sand…are reassuringly safe and offer a wealth of unique aqua-based activities, from dining in underwater restaurants to sleeping in an overwater bungalow, enjoying massages overlooking the ocean, and world-class snorkelling and diving.”
CWEIC is delighted to continue our long-standing relationship with the Maldives, helping to showcase the incredible business and leisure opportunities that the country has to offer. Our Maldives Hub Office, launched last year, provides a one-stop shop for Commonwealth businesses, facilitating introductions to government and the Maldivian private sector. The Hub Office also supports Maldivian businesses looking to explore opportunities elsewhere – and if one thing’s for sure, it’s that the Maldivian tourist sector has plenty of lessons that it could teach partners around the Commonwealth.
