In February, Lord Swire, Deputy Chairman of the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council (CWEIC), embarked on a series of strategic visits to bolster trade and investment ties across the Commonwealth.
Malaysia (Sarawak): Lord Swire visited Sarawak, where InvestSarawak joined CWEIC as a Strategic Partner. He engaged with Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, focusing on renewable energy, the digital economy, and aerospace sectors. Discussions highlighted Sarawak’s advancements in green hydrogen development and the semiconductor industry, positioning it as a dynamic investment hub.
Sri Lanka: Lord Swire conducted a four-day visit to Sri Lanka. He met with key government officials, including the newly appointed Prime Minister, Dr Harini Amarasuriya, and the Minister of Industries, Hon. Sunil Handunnetti. The discussions centred on strengthening Commonwealth partnerships to support Sri Lanka’s economic growth, with a focus on trade, investment, and industrial development.
Dubai: Lord Swire visited Dubai to enhance Commonwealth trade ties. He met with Mr Walid Hareb Al Falahi, CEO of the UAE Trade Centre, to explore deepening trade and investment links between the UAE and Commonwealth markets. Additionally, discussions with Faizal Bhana of Jersey Finance and H.E. Sheikh Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem of DP World focused on financial services and supply chain connectivity, reinforcing Dubai’s role as a global financial hub.
