CWEIC Deputy Chairman Lord Swire hosted Queensland’s Deputy Premier, The Honourable
Jarrod Bleijie MP and representatives from Trade and Invest Queensland at the House of Lords this week for discussions on deepening Commonwealth–Queensland relationships.
The visit underscored opportunities for collaboration as Brisbane prepares to host the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, a landmark event expected to drive investment, tourism, and international engagement. Following a tour of the historic House of Lords, the Deputy Premier, his team, and Lord Swire discussed enhancing trade links, promoting Queensland’s innovation and infrastructure projects, and leveraging the Commonwealth Advantage—with intra-Commonwealth trade costs on average 21% lower and foreign direct investment flows 27% higher.
Representatives from Trade and Invest Queensland highlighted the state’s ambition to showcase its investment potential to Commonwealth markets, particularly in renewable energy, advanced manufacturing, and tourism.
