The Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council (CWEIC) is delighted to announce a new collaboration with British Water, the UK’s leading membership organisation representing companies across the water and wastewater supply chain.
This collaboration reflects CWEIC’s mission to support sustainable economic growth and international cooperation across the 56 member countries of the Commonwealth. By working together, CWEIC and British Water will promote innovation, knowledge exchange, and trade in the global water sector — helping businesses governments connect with new markets and supporting member nations to address shared challenges around water management, climate resilience, and sustainable infrastructure.
Strengthening Commonwealth Water Security
With 49 of the Commonwealth’s 56 member states having ocean borders and collectively controlling 36% of the world’s oceans, water management is a critical issue for the Commonwealth community. Many member countries — including Small Island Developing States (SIDS) in the Caribbean and Pacific, and water-scarce nations in Africa and South Asia — face significant challenges related to climate change, water scarcity, and coastal resilience.
Through this partnership, CWEIC and British Water will explore opportunities to connect industry expertise and innovation from across the UK and Commonwealth to support sustainable solutions. This includes identifying international opportunities for collaboration, promoting technology and infrastructure partnerships, and encouraging responsible water management practices aligned with global WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) goals.
Promoting Trade, Innovation, and Sustainable Development
CWEIC and British Water will work closely to facilitate introductions between businesses, exchange insights on emerging international opportunities, and highlight innovation and best practice across Commonwealth markets. The partnership will also encourage joint participation at key international and UK-based events, helping companies showcase their expertise and explore investment and export opportunities.
By combining CWEIC’s global Commonwealth network with British Water’s sector knowledge and membership community, this collaboration will support both UK and Commonwealth businesses to contribute to sustainable growth, resilience, and innovation in the global water sector.
