GIBLDN Conference Highlights Gibraltar’s Growing Role In Commonwealth Trade And Investment

The inaugural GIBLDN Business Conference at London’s iconic Oxo Tower welcomed around 400 delegates across all business sectors, reflecting significant interest in Gibraltar as a dynamic and forward-looking business jurisdiction.

In her keynote address, the Hon. Gemma Arias-Vasquez emphasised Gibraltar’s transformation into an innovative and globally connected business destination. She highlighted the recently signed UK–EU Treaty as a catalyst for regulatory certainty and growth, positioning Gibraltar as a prime entry point for companies seeking access to UK and European markets.

The evening featured three live podcast sessions covering AI and the future of video, international tax considerations for relocators and lifestyle-driven investment opportunities. These sessions underscored the broad range of sectors in which Gibraltar is positioning itself to compete.

The fireside conversation between Chief Minister Fabian Picardo KC MP and Attorney General Michael Llamas CMG KC, moderated by Peter Montegriffo KC, explored how the UK-EU Treaty expands business opportunities in Gibraltar — offering UK-linked and international companies a stable platform for trade, investment and innovation.

For CWEIC and its members, Gibraltar represents an increasingly compelling proposition. As a UK Overseas Territory with close regulatory alignment to the UK and Europe, Gibraltar offers unique strategic advantages: a well-regulated environment, access to English-language legal and business frameworks, and a gateway for Commonwealth businesses looking to expand their footprint. This makes Gibraltar a natural partner for CWEIC’s mission of promoting sustainable growth, trade and investment across the Commonwealth’s 56 member states.

The conference demonstrated that Gibraltar is more than a geographic location—it is a strategic platform built for connectivity, innovation and business expansion. CWEIC looks forward to working with its members, alongside Gibraltar’s stakeholders, to explore new opportunities in this evolving business landscape.
