Lord Marland and CWEIC Delegation Calls Upon Lagos Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu welcomed a high-level delegation from the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council (CWEIC), led by Chairman Lord Marland, to Lagos House, Marina. The meeting focused on deepening trade and investment ties between Lagos State and the wider Commonwealth after Lagos State joined CWEIC as a Strategic Partner earlier this year.

Governor Sanwo-Olu highlighted Lagos as Africa’s economic gateway and underlined the State’s readiness to collaborate with global partners on infrastructure, innovation, and sustainable development. He emphasised the government’s commitment to creating an investor-friendly environment and to harnessing Lagos’ status as Nigeria’s commercial hub to attract long-term investment.

Lord Marland praised Lagos’ rapid economic transformation and its vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem, noting that Lagos is a natural hub for Commonwealth investors seeking opportunities across Africa. He reaffirmed CWEIC’s commitment to strengthening relationships with Lagos and connecting Commonwealth businesses to its growing market.

The delegation included Olasupo Shasore SAN, Chair of CWEIC’s Nigeria Hub; Obinna Anyanwu, Country Director for Nigeria; Sarva Ameresekere, Group Chairman of George Steuart & Company; John Samkubam, CEO for Africa at Crown Agents Bank; and Professor Asif Chaudry, robotic cancer surgeon and strategist. Discussions covered priority sectors including infrastructure, technology, trade facilitation, and healthcare partnerships.

This engagement underscores CWEIC’s mission to leverage the Commonwealth Advantage—reducing trade costs by 21% and increasing investment flows by 27%—to connect businesses and governments across the 56-nation network. It also reaffirms Lagos’ position as a key partner for Commonwealth enterprises seeking to expand their African footprint.
