Accra, Ghana – September 2025 – The Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council (CWEIC) Chairman, Lord Marland, concluded a highly successful visit to Accra, strengthening ties between Ghanaian and Commonwealth businesses and reinforcing the country’s central role in regional trade and investment.
Government and Institutional Engagements
The two-day programme included meetings with H.E. the President of Ghana, senior ministers, and the Governor of the Bank of Ghana. Lord Marland also met with the British High Commissioner, reflecting the close collaboration between the UK, Ghana, and the wider Commonwealth.
Strategic Partner Visits
A key focus of the visit was deepening engagement with CWEIC’s Ghana-based Strategic Partners. Lord Marland held discussions with leading institutions including UMB Bank, CBG Bank, the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund, and others. These sessions explored opportunities for greater collaboration between Ghanaian and international partners across sectors such as banking, infrastructure, telecoms, energy, and health.
Ghana International Advisory Council (GIAC)
The visit featured a meeting of the Ghana International Advisory Council (GIAC), which brings together senior business leaders, government representatives, and CWEIC Strategic Partners to shape priorities for the Ghana Hub. GIAC continues to act as a vital platform for steering CWEIC’s activities in Ghana, ensuring local perspectives inform the Council’s wider Commonwealth agenda.
Ghana Club Event
In addition, Lord Marland was hosted at the Ghana Club, a historic and respected forum bringing together Ghana’s leading lawyers, entrepreneurs, and business figures. This provided a valuable opportunity to hear first-hand perspectives from across Ghanaian society, offering insights that inform CWEIC’s broader engagement with government and the private sector.
Driving Innovation and Skills
The programme also advanced discussions on innovation and technology, including plans for a potential tech hub initiative in Accra, designed to provide training and support for young people entering the digital economy. This aligns with CWEIC’s mission to promote entrepreneurship, skills development, and investment opportunities across the Commonwealth.
Looking Ahead
Lord Marland’s engagements underscored the appetite in Ghana for deeper Commonwealth connections. From infrastructure and banking to telecoms and education, Ghanaian businesses are increasingly looking to the Commonwealth as a trusted network for investment, expertise, and long-term partnership.
CWEIC Chief Executive Samantha Cohen commented
“This visit has shown once again the strength of the Commonwealth Advantage—bringing people and businesses together across borders to build trust, unlock capital, and create opportunity. Ghana has an important role to play in the Commonwealth’s economic future, and CWEIC is proud to support that journey.”
