Malaysia Country Director Briefing at Marlborough House

On Wednesday 6 March, the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council (CWEIC) was joined by Country Director and former Director of Investment & Trade for Malaysia Tony Collingridge OBE, who delivered an insightful briefing on the economic climate in Malaysia ahead of CWEIC’s CEO Alan Gemmell’s visit to Kuala Lumpur in April.

The roundtable discussion, hosted by CWEIC at Marlborough House, was attended by Strategic Partners and others from outside the CWEIC network with an interest in ASEAN. Mr Collingridge displayed his depth and breadth of understanding of how the political and business landscapes in Malaysia had shifted since the 2018 General Election, prompting lively general discussion of prospects for international business and investment in the Malaysian market.

Roundtable participants were keen to discuss the new Malaysian Government’s policy plans, their approach to business and trade, and where the Commonwealth might fit into their international strategy. The outlook provided by Mr Collingridge was positive overall, highlighting the continued steady growth of the Malaysian economy and the pragmatism of the new leadership as key indicators of stability.

This is the first of what CWEIC hopes will be a series of similar briefings conducted by our in-market representatives across the Commonwealth for the benefit of our Strategic Partners, allowing them the chance to consult with our uniquely positioned Country Directors and gain a greater insight into the key markets of interest to them.
