Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, has called for a “forward-looking and inclusive partnership” with the United Kingdom, while highlighting the need to strengthen Commonwealth trade, connectivity, and climate resilience.
During an official visit to London, Senator Dar met with UK Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner to discuss opportunities to deepen bilateral engagement. He underscored the vital role of the British-Pakistani diaspora in strengthening ties between the two countries and invited Ms Rayner to visit Islamabad.
As part of the visit, Senator Dar launched a new pilot initiative by the Punjab Land Record Authority at the Pakistan High Commission in London, enabling overseas Pakistanis to address land matters remotely. The scheme is designed to improve services for the diaspora and foster closer connections with Pakistan.
Dar also met with the Commonwealth Secretary-General, the Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, to reaffirm Pakistan’s strong commitment as a founding member of the Commonwealth. He emphasised Pakistan’s priorities around trade, investment, and climate resilience, urging greater collaboration across the Commonwealth family of nations.
The visit follows the establishment of the UK-Pakistan Business Advisory Council in July 2025, jointly announced by the UK and Pakistan to provide a platform for boosting trade and investment. The Council will bring together policymakers and business leaders to identify opportunities and address barriers to market access.
CWEIC warmly welcomes Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening both bilateral ties with the UK and wider Commonwealth connectivity, underlining the growing opportunities for trade, investment, and collaboration across the network.
