Rosie Glazebrook Has Succesfull Visit to Karachi, Hosted by Pakistan-UK Business Council

The Pakistan – UK Business Council (PUKBC) hosted Rosie Glazebrook, CEO, of the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council (CWEIC) for engagements in Pakistan.

Pakistan, as a founding member of the Commonwealth, has long-standing cultural, legal, and historical ties with other member states. This relationship offers significant opportunities for economic collaboration and growth. The Commonwealth’s collective market of over $13 trillion provides a robust platform for Pakistan to diversify its trade and investment partnerships, enhancing its economic resilience and global integration. Leveraging these connections can help Pakistan drive economic renewal and build stronger, more sustainable economic foundations.

Activities in Karachi included:

Call upon Governor State Bank of Pakistan (SBP)
Rosie Glazebrook and Imran Khalil Naseer, Chairman of the Pak-UK Business Council (FPCCI) met with Governor State Bank of Pakistan Mr Jameel Ahmed at SBP offices in Karachi. Discussions focused on enhancing collaboration with SBP along with Pakistan’s emerging positive outlook.

Round-table with Listed Companies at Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX)
Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) in collaboration with Pak-UK Business Council  hosted Rosie Glazebrook for a roundtable with listed companies from various sectors. This was an excellent opportunity for Pakistan’s listed companies to explore the benefits of becoming Strategic Partners of the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council (CWEIC).

Meeting with Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs – Mr Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh.
Rosie Glazebrook, Imran Khalil, as well as Asfandyar Farrukh, Director at the Pakistan – UK Business Council (PUKBC) called upon Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs and Secretary Maritime Affairs to explore cooperation and collaboration of Pakistan’s Maritime sector with the Commonwealth network.

Interactive session with family businesses at the Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI)
Mr Saquib Fayyaz Magoon, Senior Vice President of FPCCI, welcomed Rosie Glazebrook CEO of CWEIC at the FPCCI head offices. He emphasised that Pakistan requires trade and investment, technology transfer, industrial collaborations, and the fortification of its industrial foundation to boost exports and attain import substitution – rather than aid or grants. Imran Khalil Naseer, Chairman of the Pakistan – UK Business Council (PUKBC), maintained that CWEIC and Pakistan’s corporate sector should work together to enable Pakistani corporations to become corporate Strategic Partners of CWEIC.

SBI Sindh Board of Investment – Govt of Sindh
The Pakistan – UK Business Council (PUKBC organised an interactive visit for Glazebrook to Investment Department Sindh – Govt of Sindh (previously known as Board of Investment – Sindh), to explore various projects that require potential collaboration with Commonwealth partners. Delegates were hosted by Raja Khurram Shahzad Umar Secretary Investment (Govt of Sindh) and briefed on the state of the art eco-friendly and fully sustainable projects currently being developed such as the vision of Education City among others.

Visit to Standard Chartered Bank (SCB)
Glazebrook met with Rehan Shaikh, CEO of SCB’s Pakistan operations. This included a briefing on various emerging opportunities within Pakistan from a Commonwealth perspective. Standard Chartered Uk is already a key strategic partner of the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council (CWEIC).

National Foods Limited – Meeting with Chief Executive Abrar Hasan

Visit to Systems Limited
Systems ltd: Pakistan’s top IT company listed on PSX is uniquely positioned to partner with the world’s largest businesses in their transformation journeys. Delegates were hosted by Asif Peer Chief Executive- Systems Limited Ltd to explore collaboration and expansion into Commonwealth markets.

Courtesy visit to Mazar-e-Quaid and the Museum.
Mazar-e-Quaid, also known as Jinnah Mausoleum or the National Mausoleum, is the final resting place of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan. Designed in a 1960s modernist style, it was completed in 1971.
Senior Vice-President of FPCCI, Saqib Magoon, along with members of PUKBC joined Rosie Glazebrook for this courtesy visit to the Founder of Pakistan’s last resting place – an iconic symbol of Karachi as well as a popular tourist sites in the city.
