Cameroon Celebrates Commonwealth Day

The Government of Cameroon presided over various activities to commemorate Commonwealth Day on March 11, 2024.The flag hoisting ceremony was presided at by the Minister Delegate for the Commonwealth, His Excellency Felix Mbayu, on March 4, 2024.

Week-long activities marking the commemoration of the 2024 edition of the Commonwealth Day were launched at the Ministry of External Relations. The traditional flag hoisting ceremony was presided at by the Minister Delegate to the Minister of External Relations in charge of Cooperation with the Commonwealth, H.E. Felix Mbayu, in the presence of some members of government and High Commissioners of Commonwealth nations. This year’s theme, “One Resilient Common Future,” underscores the strong bonds of friendship and cooperation among the 56 Commonwealth nations. It emphasises how these nations collaborate to tackle common challenges and achieve shared goals.

CWEIC was represented by Cameroon, Gabon, and Togo Hub Director, Cham Etienne Bama.

Launching the one-week activities that will take place across the ten regions, Minister Felix Mbayu announced the launch of the one-week activities across the ten regions, stating that they would provide Cameroon with an opportunity to highlight national development projects and aspirations aligned with the Commonwealth Day theme and other key priorities of the organization. These priorities included the Commonwealth Year of the Youth 2023-24, the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), and the 75th anniversary of the Commonwealth. The Minister emphasised that these activities aimed to mobilize efforts for youth empowerment, particularly by recognizing outstanding Cameroonian achievers within the Commonwealth.
