De La Rue Delivers Commemorative Banknote to Mark Sri Lanka Central Bank’s 75th Anniversary

The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) has unveiled a historic Rs. 2000 commemorative currency banknote to celebrate its 75th anniversary under the theme “Stability for Prosperity.”

Designed and printed by De La Rue – the global leader in secure currency and identity solutions and a valued CWEIC Strategic Partner – the limited-issue note showcases iconic national imagery including the CBSL Head Office, the Colombo Lighthouse Clock Tower, and a stylised map of Sri Lanka, symbolising resilience, progress, and national identity.

De La Rue’s advanced security technologies—Enhanced GEMINI™ (UV-visible print feature), IGNITE® (colour-shifting security thread), and tactile bars for the visually impaired, ensure authenticity, accessibility, and world-class protection against counterfeiting. Only 50 million of the special banknotes will enter circulation through licensed commercial banks.

Ruth Euling, De La Rue Managing Director, noted:

“This commemorative banknote is more than currency—it is a symbol of strength, resilience, and progress. Milestones like this remind us why trusted institutions matter—and how stability truly paves the way for prosperity.”

CWEIC congratulates De La Rue’s on this commemorative design and ongoing contribution to economic stability and sustainable growth across the Commonwealth.
